In France, more and more people are receiving messages alerting them to a parcel delivery problem. These are fraudulent messages.

Large package scams are proliferating. Victims receive a message telling them that they have received a package that is too large for their mailbox. This is actually a scam to collect banking information. Fraudsters use this scenario to contact their victims and hack their data. Fiona Morvillier was also almost fooled. While she is waiting for the delivery, she receives a text message from a cell phone number. But behind this SMS hides a scammer who claims to be his delivery man.

“He offered me a link, so I clicked straight away. Afterwards, I was asked to enter my bank imprint”she says. “I think I was asked for 1 or 2 euros. Except at that moment, I did a ‘tilt’ and I said to myself that it was a bit weird”, explains Fiona Morvillier. Scams are growing as the volume of packages passing through France is ever greater. In 2022, 1.5 billion parcels were distributed, or around two parcels per inhabitant.
