Paris, Bordeaux, Lille… but also London, New Delhi or Tokyo. Throughout the world, thousands of iconic monuments will be symbolically plunged into darkness for one hour on Saturday March 23 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. local time. Objective: to highlight the importance of protecting the planet, explains WWF, which has organized this operation called “Earth Hour” every year since 2007.

“The report from the European Copernicus Observatory published in January 2024 reveals that 2023 was the hottest year on record. (…) It is in this context of environmental emergency that WWF calls on institutions, media and businesses to show their support for biodiversity”details the NGO.

In France, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, the Sacré-Cœur, Notre-Dame de Paris, the Saint-André Cathedral in Bordeaux, the Hôtel de Ville in Lyon, the Grand Place in Lille and the Vauban dam in Strasbourg are participating in the operation.
