Montreal’s “Unceded Territory”: the Mohawks Respond to the Legault Government

The Mohawks condemn the Legault government in the controversy over the “unceded territory” of Montreal.

Minister Ian Lafrenière said the Canadian was wrong by now asserting that Montreal is unceded Indigenous territory.

However, the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake said Thursday that it is irritated by Quebec’s position.

In a statement, he argues that the dogmatic comment that challenges and discredits the presence of the Mohawks is not only insulting, but is seen as a misplaced attack on their existence, in the words used.
