Montreal’s Ukrainian Community Solidarity

A priest decided to hold a special mass after learning about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The reverend spoke to his parents, who are in Ukraine. Nearly 80 years old, they cannot leave their residence to hide.

“My son, please pray for us, because we are too old to look for a hiding place”, mentions the priest.

The faithful confided their anguish, their sadness and their anger. The Reverend also took the time to thank Quebecers for their welcome and openness.

“Nobody tells me, ‘You can’t pray in Ukrainian, for example. Or speak the Ukrainian language. But why does it happen in Ukraine? It’s truly sad! Thank you to Canada, to Quebec to all the people who are really supporting us right now.

Prayers continued in the afternoon in downtown Montreal. Even Russians were there.

“We have to stay together, because today is Ukraine. But we don’t know where Russian fascism will go. We have to stop it now, together,” said a citizen.

The Ukrainian community has not finished making itself heard here, in Quebec. Other gatherings are planned, including one this Sunday.
