This week, South Korean company KRAFTON Inc. opened its first AAA game studio in Canada, which will be called KRAFTON Montreal. Under the leadership of Patrik Méthé, the studio will hire 150 people over the next three years to join a team of industry veterans, including Benoit Frappier, producer, Frédéric Duroc, game director, and Martin Paradis, chief technology officer.

The press release indicates that the creation of the studio is accompanied by the announcement of its first project, The Bird That Drinks Tears, a fantasy in-game adaptation of the popular Korean novel series created and written by Yeong-do Lee. Having celebrated the 20e anniversary of the serial publication of the novel in November 2022, The Bird That Drinks Tears is renowned for its elaborate universe and the complex dynamics of its three-dimensional characters.
It is characterized by its unique settings and characters that beautifully represent East and West as well as the history of four races, the Humans, Leckorn, Dokkaebis and Nagas, which intertwine as events unfold.
The studio is not at its first weapons. KRAFTON inc. is a collective of independent game development studios behind the success of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS and games The Callisto Protocol, NEW STATE MOBILE, Moonbreaker, TERA And ELYON.
