(Montreal) A firefighter was taken to hospital after suffering heatstroke while battling flames in a building fire in Montreal on Thursday night.

More than 150 firefighters were deployed to try to control a fire on rue Saint-Christophe, north of boulevard de Maisonneuve, said Patrick Fournel, section chief of the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM), at the end of the evening. .

The intervention began around 10:30 p.m. in Le Village, near downtown Montreal. This is a fifth alarm, the highest level of the SIM in terms of the deployment of the number of firefighters.

The building was vacant, according to Mr. Fournel, but the fire spread to the buildings on the sides. The residents would all be out.

Shortly before midnight, the intervention was still in progress.
