Unionized employees at the CSN voted 97% to use a 10-day strike bank at an extraordinary general meeting on Friday evening and decided to strike for two days.
Their collective agreement expired on December 31. Negotiations began in March, but the ten sessions were unsuccessful, according to the CSN.
The union wants to preserve jobs and improve wages, while the employer wants to use more subcontracting, according to a press release from the CSN, which specifies that a new employee earns $15.60 per hour.
As a means of pressure, about fifty employees showed up without their uniforms at work on Friday. The employer sent them home, said the CSN.
