(Montreal) A vehicle hit a car that was parked in the parking lot of the Galeries Lachine shopping center in Montreal on Monday evening.
The accident occurred around 4 p.m. in the borough of Lachine.
“A moving vehicle would have collided with a stationary vehicle and during the impact, one of the people who were about to get out of the stationary vehicle would have been caught by the first vehicle”, explained a spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department, Mariane Allaire-Morin.
Both cars ended up in the commercial building, suggesting that the moving car was traveling at significant speed.
The driver of the immobilized vehicle who was about to get out suffered serious injuries. The 53-year-old man was taken to hospital and is in critical condition. His passenger, aged 58, was also injured, but she is believed to be out of danger.
The driver of the moving car, a 76-year-old man, was not injured. He was treated for nervous shock.
The scene of the accident is currently protected to allow SPVM investigators to analyze the scene and better understand the causes and circumstances of the collision.
