Montreal | Two events of armed violence in Saint-Laurent

(Montreal) Shots were fired at a restaurant around 3:50 a.m. Sunday in the borough of Saint-Laurent. It was the second incident of armed violence in the area in the space of a few hours. A 19-year-old pedestrian was also shot and injured when he was the target of a robbery late Saturday night.

At around 3:50 a.m., a call was made to 911 for gunshots heard on boulevard de la Côte-Vertu, near rue Lebeau.

When they arrived at the scene, the police located bullet holes on the window of Café Jounieh. Casings were also found on the ground.

According to our information, the restaurant was the target of several arson attacks last fall.

Robbery

A few hours earlier, a 19-year-old pedestrian was shot and injured when he was the target of a robbery in the same borough.

Around 11:30 p.m., the victim was walking on rue Dépatie, near rue Cléroux, when the assault occurred. Everything indicates that the theft was the motive for the crime.

“According to initial information, the victim was walking on the street while two suspects followed him on foot. It was then that the two suspects attacked her to steal her personal belongings and that is when one of the suspects allegedly fired [sur] the victim,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM.

The suspects fled on foot before police arrived. The victim was taken to hospital with upper body injuries and is in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing, and the canine unit has been called to the scene to help search for clues.

Nothing indicates for the moment that the two events of armed violence would be connected.
