Montreal: two arrests for as many murders

Two men were arrested Wednesday and Thursday in connection with two murders committed last September in Montreal.

On the one hand, a 55-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of having played a role in the murder of a 27-year-old man, committed in September in the garage of a residence on the street Rathwell.

This is the fourth arrest in this case of the 19th homicide of the year in the metropolis, after those of Véronique Manceaux, 35; Tara Kusic, 28 years old and a minor of 17 years old. The teenager and the woman have since been charged with premeditated murder and contempt of a body. Kusic, for his part, faces counts of aiding and abetting after the fact murder and contempt of a corpse.

On the other hand, a 70-year-old man was arrested for a fatal arson attack in a retirement home in the Anjou district on September 7.

A 97-year-old woman was killed in the disaster.

“The arrested suspect lived in the same building located at the intersection of boulevards Joseph-Renaud and Yves-Prévost. A joint investigation carried out by the Major Crimes Section and the SPVM Arson Unit made it possible to identify the person responsible and proceed to his arrest for manslaughter and arson, ”detailed the City of Montreal Police Department. (SPVM).

Three arrests for a shooting

In addition, a teenager was arrested and charged on Wednesday on the sidelines of a shooting that occurred in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district on November 3.

That night, the alleged shooter and two accomplices would have opened fire five times in the direction of a duplex on Walkley Avenue, the SPVM said on Thursday.

The investigators were able, during their investigation, to trace the course of events to the three suspects and carry out as many searches to collect evidence.

The suspect, who cannot be named because he is a minor, is currently charged with conspiracy and death threats. Firearms charges could follow.

“His two alleged accomplices have been released for investigation and are not facing any charges for the moment,” said the SPVM.

This shooting, which is part of the wave of violence that shook the metropolis throughout the year, had no casualties.
