An anti-capitalist demonstration was dispersed in the city center on Wednesday evening. The demonstrators allegedly attacked police officers and used smoke gas.
The anti-capitalist demonstration organized by Convergence of Anti-Capitalist Struggles (CLAC) began at 7 p.m. at Phillips Square, at the intersection of Union and Sainte-Catherine streets.
Around 8 p.m., demonstrators broke the windows of neighboring businesses and threw rocks at police officers who were supervising the march, according to the SPVM.
The agents then allegedly dispersed the demonstration and used chemical irritants around Maisonneuve and Robert-Bourrassa streets.
During the march, demonstrators also deployed smoke gas and blocked the streets with objects such as signs, cones and trash cans to “hinder” the work of the police, according to an SPVM spokesperson.
No arrests have been made yet, according to the SPVM.
