IQAir, which takes stock of the most polluted cities on the planet, has put the metropolis at the top of its list where the air is “extremely unhealthy” for health.

The index of an “extremely unhealthy” air is between 201 and 300.

Montreal shows 239, odds revised upwards, at 9:55 a.m.

The index was at 172, a little past 7 a.m. this morning, then it rose to 195 at 8:21 a.m., which is “unhealthy”.

In 2nd position comes Kuwait City in Kuwait with 170, then in 3rd position Tehran in Iran with 169.

The smoky air in Montreal is due to the raging forest fires in Quebec.

Health Canada has issued a smog alert for the metropolis due to the high concentrations of fine particles which lead to the deterioration of the ambient air.
