Montreal | Shooting downtown, no arrests or apparent injuries

(Montreal) A shooting occurred in the heart of downtown Montreal at the start of the night on Monday.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reported shortly after that the numerous shots fired did not cause any apparent injuries. However, no arrests had been made so far.

The police were alerted around 12:45 a.m. that the shooting had just broken out on Stanley Street, near the intersection of Sainte-Catherine Street West.

When they arrived at the scene, the police noted the presence of several casings from firearm projectiles on the ground, as well as a good number of bullet holes on the facade of a licensed establishment.

The first reports report an altercation between a few people. By the time the first police arrived, everyone believed to be involved had fled.

A security perimeter was erected so that SPVM investigators could examine the crime scene. The police ordered the closure of Stanley Street for an indefinite period, on a section located between Sainte-Catherine Street West and René-Lévesque Boulevard West.
