A shooting that broke out Thursday night in northeast Montreal left one dead and one injured.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reports that a call was made to the emergency services at around 7.15 p.m. to report that gunshots had just been heard on Boulevard des Roseraies.
On their arrival at the scene, the police located a 20-year-old man who had been shot in the upper body in his vehicle, on Place Cointerel.
He was transported to a hospital center in critical condition; he succumbed to his injuries overnight Friday.
A second injured individual, aged 17, was located nearby on Boulevard des Galeries-d’Anjou. The teenager had also been hit with at least one projectile from a firearm in his upper body, but suffered only superficial injuries.
He was in turn transported to a hospital, but there is no fear for his life. The SPVM reports that the teenager, who is known to the police, is still working with his investigators.
Police officers from the major crimes section and forensic identification technicians combed the scene of the shooting to establish the circumstances.
As of Friday morning, the police had yet to make any arrests.
Since the start of 2021, 32 people have now been murdered in the territory patrolled by the SPVM.
