Traffic signs displaying messages calling for a pro-Palestinian uprising in Montreal prompted a report to police on Wednesday.
Citizens alerted the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) about a road sign located in the South-West. Photos posted on social media show at least two signs posted in different locations.
The messages displayed on the billboards call for “intifada,” a term used by pro-Palestinian activists to refer to an uprising against an oppressive regime.
The SPVM has opened an investigation to determine who is responsible for the signs. “We are waiting for confirmation as to whether hate crime investigators will be involved,” added Sabrina Gauthier, spokesperson for the SPVM.
