Two hotels in downtown Montreal are requisitioned to house homeless people under the local state of emergency decreed last week by Mayor Valérie Plante.
The first building will offer 111 places to people who test positive for COVID-19 and who do not require hospital care, as well as those awaiting a result and those who must isolate themselves.
It will be operated this week by the CIUSSS du Center-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal and by the Old Brewery Mission.
A second establishment will offer 50 emergency accommodation places from the beginning of February to Indigenous people experiencing homelessness.
This hotel is located near the Milton-Parc sector where the needs for culturally appropriate and safe services are particularly important. It will be operated by the Quebec Native Projects (PAQ) organization.
The civic addresses of the two establishments were not disclosed in the press release sent Thursday by the mayor’s office and the executive committee.
The state of emergency allows the City of Montreal to carry out interventions requiring workers or material resources without going through a call for tenders. It was first decreed in Montreal on March 27, 2020 and was not lifted until August 23.
In this case, the state of emergency must be renewed by the Montreal Agglomeration Council.
