Nearly 400 police officers were mobilized Tuesday morning in Montreal during a “major operation” by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
In a brief press release, the federal police force clarified that this operation targets a “suspected criminal organization” in Montreal, without specifying which one.
The RCMP added that the approximately 400 police officers are participating in a series of searches stemming from an investigation by the Joint Organized Crime Investigation Unit.
The Joint Proceeds of Crime Unit and the Canada Revenue Agency also participated in this investigation, the RCMP said.
In its press release, the police force specified that one of the sites where searches took place is near Fleury Est and J.-J.-Gagnier streets, in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville district.
An RCMP mobile command post was notably deployed at this location.
