Montreal Opera | Il Trovatore as a curtain raiser for the next season

It’s the classic Il Trovatoreby Verdi, which will launch the 2022-23 season of the Opéra de Montréal, at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier at Place des Arts.

The work will be presented from September 10 to 18, 2022 and will feature an impressive cast including Quebecers Marie-Nicole Lemieux, Luc Robert and Étienne Dupuis – the latter will also share the stage with his Australian wife Nicole Car. The staging will be the work of Michel-Maxime Legault, the orchestra and singers will be conducted by Jacques Lacombe.

After the success of Swirls in 2016, Michel Marc Bouchard will return to the OdM from November 19 to 27 with Beauty of the World, an original booklet inspired by the extraordinary rescue of works from the Louvre during the Second World War. Conductor Jean-Marie Zeitouni will direct the scores written by composer Julien Bilodeau to a cast that includes France Bellemare and Émile Schneider, among others.

Ainadamarby Golijov and Hwang, will premiere March 18-26 as the season wraps up with the classic Madame Butterflyby Pucinni, with two women at the helm, Stephanie Havey directing and Keri-Lynn Wilson directing.

In addition to the main presentations at the large Wilfrid-Pelletier hall, note should also be taken of the Opéra à la carte program, at the Pierre Mercure hall, which features from August 4 to 6 Yourcenar – An island of passions, a work by Hélène Dorion and by the late Marie-Claire Blais, which is freely inspired by the life of the novelist Marguerite Yourcenar. The plot composed by Éric Champagne will be directed by Dina Gilbert, the staging is by Angela Konrad.

The current season of the Opéra de Montréal ends in the spring with The Magic Flutescheduled from May 7 to 17.
