Montreal | One seriously injured in downtown hit-and-run

A pedestrian is hospitalized with serious upper body injuries after being hit by a vehicle in the Ville-Marie borough in Montreal on Friday evening. The motorist in question did not stop and has still not been found.


The accident took place around 6 p.m. at the corner of boulevard de Maisonneuve and rue Berri, in downtown Montreal.

According to initial information from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), the pedestrian, a man in his forties, tried to cross the street when he did not have the right of way.

The motorist, for his part, was facing a green light. However, he did not stop after the collision and has not been apprehended so far.

The color of the vehicle also could not be identified with certainty by the SPVM, since the testimonies vary, indicates agent Raphaël Bergeron, media relations officer for the SPVM.

The victim was taken to hospital with major upper body injuries.

A scene was erected for investigative purposes and the area was closed to traffic on Friday evening.
