This violent dispute, the reason for which we do not know, broke out on Saturday shortly before 10:40 p.m. at the intersection of rue Prieur Est and avenue Lausanne, in the borough of Montreal-Nord.
The 28-year-old man driving a white van faced the pedestrian, a 43-year-old man. The latter would have drawn a firearm during the verbal confrontation. The driver would then have rushed in his direction to defend himself, according to our sources.
“When the police arrive at the scene, they locate the victim, a 43-year-old man. He was conscious and injured in the upper body and transported to a hospital, but there is no danger to his life, “said agent Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). ) overnight.
The driver who hit him was not injured. He was still at the scene of the collision when police arrived.
“According to initial information, a conflict would have degenerated between the driver and the pedestrian. Subsequently, the driver, in his van, intentionally hit the pedestrian,” confirmed the SPVM spokesperson.
The scene has been protected for investigators from the SPVM’s collision investigation section who will try to determine the exact circumstances that led to this assault.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested and questioned by the police.
As the SPVM investigation is ongoing, media relations cannot confirm the information obtained from police sources regarding the presence of a firearm.
“We do not know if the two individuals knew each other or what may have caused the argument,” said police officer Raphaël Bergeron on Sunday.
