Montreal North | Pedestrian in critical condition after hit and run

An elderly woman in her forties was in critical condition after being hit by a motorist who then fled before the arrival of the police on Tuesday evening in Montreal North. An investigation has been opened to try to locate the driver at fault.

It was around 5:50 p.m. that the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reported having been called to the scene of the collision, which occurred on boulevard Pie-IX, very close to the intersection with the Boulevard Henri-Bourassa.

Once they arrived on the scene, “the police assisted a 45-year-old woman who had been injured in the upper body,” reported agent Julien Lévesque, spokesperson for the SPVM.

The victim was taken care of by paramedics and transported to a nearby hospital. The woman, whose life would be in danger, was however conscious during her trip to the hospital, said the authorities, who were still waiting late Tuesday evening for more information on her state of health.

According to the first information transmitted by the police force, the motorist involved in the collision “would have left the scene before the arrival of the police”, thus committing a hit and run.

“We set up a security perimeter for our investigators. They will meet with various witnesses in the next few hours,” continued Constable Lévesque. The video tapes of surveillance cameras located in the surroundings should also be viewed by the investigators, in order to establish the exact circumstances of the event.

In the evening, automobile traffic was temporarily closed on boulevard Pie-IX, near boulevard Henri-Bourassa.
