Montreal North | An apartment targeted by arson

(Montreal) An arson attack was ignited at the start of the night on Monday in an apartment in a residential building in the Montreal-North borough, but no one was injured.

Calls to the 911 emergency telephone center reported around 2 a.m. the start of a fire in the building located on Dagenais Street, near the intersection of Matte Avenue.

After their arrival, firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) took little time to bring the fire under control and put it out. Little damage was done.

An evacuation of the other apartments in the building was however necessary.

Firefighters found that a window in the burnt apartment had been smashed and inside they found a Molotov cocktail. They therefore transferred responsibility for the investigation to the arson squad of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

No arrests had been reported by late night.

Investigators were to go to the scene later Monday to try to solve the case.
