Montreal-North: already accused of domestic violence, he allegedly stabbed his ex

A 46-year-old Montreal woman was allegedly savagely attacked with knives by her ex-partner who was arrested twice for domestic violence since last summer, but who allegedly flouted his release conditions to attack his former flame.

Jean-Claude Maurissaint, 38, appeared Monday afternoon at the Montreal courthouse on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, criminal harassment and breach of conditions.

The attack occurred during the night from Sunday to Monday, in a home on Avenue Gervais, in the Montreal-North sector.

It was police officers who saw the victim quite damaged, around midnight, while she was walking on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard East towards the police station to ask for help.

The woman had just been stabbed in the upper body a few minutes earlier, inside her home.

She apparently managed to flee her attacker before being rescued by patrol officers who happened to pass by the area.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A search carried out in the surrounding area made it possible to locate and arrest the alleged perpetrator of this attack, Jean-Claude Maurissaint.

According to our information, the suspect is the victim’s ex-spouse.

According to our sources, Maurissaint kept a key to his former girlfriend’s apartment – where he had a duplicate key made – to gain access to the home.

He allegedly attacked his ex-partner while she was in her bedroom.

Just last month, Maurissaint was arrested for assault committed in a domestic context against this same former girlfriend.

However, he was released with a series of conditions to respect, in particular that of not approaching his ex.

The 38-year-old man was also arrested for another domestic violence case last June. He was then charged with assault causing harm, threatening to kill and breaking and entering with criminal intent.

However, it is not known whether the complainant in this case is the ex-partner whom he allegedly tried to kill on Monday night.
