In 2021, the SPVM recorded a total of 5,318 “victimizations” related to domestic violence, i.e. crimes affecting the physical integrity of the victim, which therefore does not include property violations or breakages. conditions, she said.

This number represents 23.7% of all victimizations of crimes against the person recorded in the territory last year.

In the case of homicides, 13.5% of the 37 recorded last year in the metropolis were committed in a context of domestic violence, also indicated Anouk St-Onge.

A new Section

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) presented Wednesday its new Section specialized in domestic violence (SSVC) deployed last October in the wake of the tabling of the report Rebuild trust.

Filed in 2019, following the #metoo movement, the report rebuild trust contains 190 recommendations and outlines the issues to consider in order to implement new measures and offer more effective services for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
