(Montreal) A 30-year-old motorcyclist is fighting for his life in a Montreal hospital after being struck Friday morning by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) whose driver fled after the impact.
Shortly after 8 a.m., the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) had begun its investigation into the case, but had not yet been able to announce that an arrest had been made.
The police were alerted by information transmitted around 6:15 a.m. to the 911 emergency telephone exchange.
It appears that the sport utility vehicle and motorcycle were traveling north on Pitfield Boulevard near the intersection of Côte-Vertu Road in an industrial area of the borough of Saint-Laurent, in northwestern Montreal. .
The SPVM was informed that the person driving the SUV made a 180 degree turn before hitting the motorcycle. The person at fault would therefore have fled to the south, on Pitfield Boulevard.
As of early morning, the police did not have a precise description of the SUV. However, investigators were looking for witnesses and neighborhood surveillance cameras that may have captured footage of the events.
A security perimeter was erected on Pitfield Boulevard, which was to remain closed to traffic for several hours on Friday, to allow SPVM collision investigators to examine the scene.
