Montreal Metro | Service stop completed on the orange line

The orange line of the Montreal metro was paralyzed between the Berri-UQAM and Henri-Bourassa stations for a total of more than three hours on Friday, but the situation eventually returned to normal.

This was indicated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) on social networks.

In the morning, a service stop affected this section of the orange line from approximately 11:10 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. The entire blue line was also stopped. In the afternoon, the same section was paralyzed from approximately 1:10 p.m. to 3:10 p.m.

“A special bus service is currently shuttling between the Berri-UQAM and Henri-Bourassa stations,” the organization announced.

Isabelle Tremblay, spokesperson for the STM, indicated that the two service interruptions have “nothing to do with each other.”

The morning event was caused by “a possible infiltration of dangerous materials”, probably an irritant gas, at the Iberville station. As this station is located very close to the Jean-Talon station, the two lines which pass there had to be stopped, indicated Mme Tremblay.

In the afternoon, an intervention by emergency services at the Jean-Talon station caused the interruption. The STM remains discreet about the exact nature of the event.
