The four lines of the Montreal metro were paralyzed for a few dozen minutes at noon on Wednesday due to a breakdown in the communications system.
This was announced by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) on social networks shortly after noon. First announced around 12:35 p.m., the resumption of service was finally postponed to around 1 p.m.
The trains finally began to run gradually again from 1 p.m.
The service interruption affected all 68 metro stations. Shuttle systems had been set up occasionally between the termini of each line, as required by protocol.
No further details have yet been given on the nature of the problem with the communications system. It is the latter which makes it possible in particular to inform users about train arrivals, incidents in the metro and other general notices of the kind.
