Montreal | Man stabbed in the Village, suspect arrested

(Montreal) A suspect was arrested in connection with a stabbing in the Village district on Friday.

A call was made around 4:05 p.m. Friday to report that a man had been assaulted at the corner of Ontario Street and Beaudry Street. When police arrived on scene, they found a 37-year-old man injured in the upper body with a sharp or pointed object. He was transported to a hospital and is now out of danger, the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) said Saturday.

The initial information obtained by the SPVM from various witnesses indicates that an altercation took place between the victim and another man and that, during the altercation, the second individual attacked the 37-year-old man with a sharp or pointed object, hitting him in the upper body.

The suspect reportedly left the scene quickly, but was arrested by police shortly after. The SPVM says he is a 34-year-old man who met with investigators Friday evening.

A perimeter was established around the area and investigators were dispatched to analyze the scene in order to understand the circumstances of this attack.

Ontario Street was closed between de la Visitation and Beaudry streets Friday afternoon.
