Montreal | Man in critical condition after fight

(Montreal) A man lay in critical condition in a Montreal hospital late Thursday night after apparently being beaten by at least one other person in the city’s west end hours earlier. .

No arrests had been reported by the end of the night by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), which had begun an investigation into the events.

According to preliminary information provided to investigators, a fight broke out for an unknown reason around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of a restaurant on Décarie Boulevard, near the intersection of Paré Street, in the former racecourse of Montreal.

The SPVM learned that among the group involved in the altercation, one of the people allegedly used force to attack the victim, a 50-year-old man. The members of the group reportedly fled shortly thereafter.

When the police arrived, having been informed of the clash by a call to the 911 emergency telephone exchange, the victim was lying on the ground, unconscious.

Shortly after, SPVM investigators were able to meet with witnesses to get their version of what had happened. Other police officers searched for surveillance cameras in the commercial sector to see if they could have captured any images that could help solve this case.

In the meantime, a security perimeter has been erected. Forensic identification technicians began combing through the crime scene.
