(Montreal) A 59-year-old man lost his life after being pulled unconscious from a burning single-family home Wednesday evening in eastern Montreal.
The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) reports that the death occurred at the hospital during the night of Thursday.
The fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. in the house located on rue Saint-Donat, near the intersection of rue de Marseille, in the Tétreaultville district. Firefighters from the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SSIM) were able to contain the flames, but the damage caused to the house was considerable.
When they entered the house, they found a man unconscious. Transport to hospital was arranged.
Police report that there was no one else in the house when firefighters responded.
Members of the SPVM arson squad will lead the investigation to determine the cause and circumstances of this fatal fire. On Thursday, the police were already able to establish that the incident was probably accidental in origin.
