Grace Zumwinkle scored a hat trick and Minnesota defeated Montreal 3-0 in the Professional Women’s Hockey League on Saturday.
Presented in front of 13,316 people, the match set an attendance record for a professional women’s hockey game.
Zumwinkle gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead at 17:21 in the first period with a backhand from the right circle.
The streak began after Minnesota won a battle along the stripe.
The 24-year-old scored again at 1:47 in the third period, thanks to a wrist shot from the blue line.
Zumwinkle completed his hat-trick at 17:13, into an empty net.
Susanna Tapani had the first two goals, while Maddie Rooney made 24 saves.
Ann-Renée Desbiens stopped 19 shots for Montreal, which had the upper hand 24-22 in shots.
Kori Cheverie’s group was shut out in three power plays.
The team received the last four penalties of the match – including a sequence where we had to manage three against five, lasting 31 seconds.
The two clubs won their first match 3-2, away from home. Montreal defeated Ottawa and Minnesota got the better of Boston.
Defender Madison Bizal, of the Montreal team, is originally from Elk River, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis — St. Paul.
Regulars at the Xcel Energy Center saw it as a first victory for the local team in four matches. The Wild were beaten there on December 31, as well as January 2 and 4.
On Wednesday, Montreal will face New York at the UBS Arena, home of the New York Islanders.
The New Yorkers have a record of one victory and one defeat.
The Montreal club will play at home for the first time on January 13 in Verdun, against Boston.
