(Montreal) The Minister of Public Security Geneviève Guilbault indicated that she had no comment to make on the possible hiring of the former director general of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) Martin Prud’homme by the City from Montreal.

According to Radio-Canada, the administration of Valérie Plante would have hired Martin Prud’homme as deputy director general of the City, associated with public security. The news is expected to be confirmed Wednesday at 11 a.m.
“I learned from the tape, I don’t know if the announcement was officially made by the City of Montreal, but I learned that indeed, it would hire Mr. Prud’homme, but it is a hiring that has absolutely nothing to do with the Government of Quebec. So I have no comment to make, ”said Geneviève Guilbault at a press briefing on Wednesday morning.

In May 2021, Martin Prud’homme announced his retirement from public service, indicating that he had come to an agreement with the provincial government after a long saga.
The one who had been director general of the SQ since 2014 had been suspended with pay in March 2019. Minister Guilbault had at that time affirmed that the director general was temporarily relieved of his duties due to allegations in connection with leaks at the Permanent Anti-Corruption Unit (UPAC).
In March 2020, the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) announced that no criminal charges would be filed against Mr. Prud’homme. More than two years after his suspension, however, the chief executive was still under investigation by the Public Service Commission.
He also seized the courts in November 2020 in order to know the actions of which he was accused. These procedures were abandoned at the same time that Minister Guilbault withdrew her request to the Commission concerning this latest investigation.
