Montreal Fashion Week takes place from September 18 to 24, across the four corners of the metropolis. Nearly 200 designers, retailers, manufacturers and fashion schools are participating in the event and taking advantage of the opportunity to launch their collections and open the doors of their boutique workshops.
“We celebrate Montreal fashion for a week, this very dynamic and very strong ecosystem which has more than 6,500 companies in Quebec,” says Mathieu St-Arnaud Lavoie, general director of mmode, the metropolitan fashion cluster whose mission is to bringing together industry players and organizing Fashion Week.
Major signature events
“This year, there are major signature events, such as the launch party, the Kanuk evening, the Marigold fashion show for the benefit of the DPJ Youth Foundation, the major M3 men’s fashion event, the festive and inclusive market at the McCord Stewart Museum, or the collective workshop on upcycling and the circular fashion market,” continues Mathieu St-Arnaud Lavoie.
He specifies that the environment is at the heart of the industry’s concerns and that Fashion Week won the sustainable tourism award from Tourisme Montréal last year. “Our clothing collection initiatives and all the activities that promote ethical and responsible fashion ensured that we won this award,” he said. We are continuing in this direction, we are launching a major study and we hope that the entire fashion ecosystem, such as retailers, designers and manufacturers, adopt eco-responsible and socio-responsible practices. »
Promotion of local talent
Co-founder of V Kosmetik, Vickie Joseph is the ambassador of this Fashion Week. She points out that this event shines a light on local designers.
We still have work to do to better promote our creators, and that is why this event is necessary. Fashion must be passed down from generation to generation, it must be part of our culture, and it will be beneficial for Quebec’s economy.
Vickie Joseph, ambassador of this Fashion Week
“It’s great to see that designers and large fashion companies are very diverse, there is a real mix of cultures, which is very enriching.
