Montreal | Eleven cars vandalized

The windshields of eleven parked vehicles were damaged in Montreal during the night from Thursday to Friday. The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) has opened an investigation.

The act of vandalism occurred during the night from Thursday to Friday, around 3 a.m., according to Jean-Pierre Brabant, media relations officer for the SPVM.

In total, eleven vehicles had their windshields smashed while they were parked on Chomedey Street, between Sherbrooke West and Lincoln Streets, said Mr. Brabant. A user shared a video of the damaged cars on Instagram on Friday evening.

The SPVM sent a report to investigators. A search to view surveillance cameras will be undertaken in particular. For the moment, there are no arrests in this case, specifies Mr. Brabant.

Earlier this week, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, environmental activists deflated the tires of dozens of SUVs in Outremont to denounce the growing sale of “energy-consuming and polluting” vehicles. » These misdeeds were claimed in a press release.

On Friday, a demonstration brought together nearly a thousand people in Montreal to denounce “the prolonged inaction of governments” in the face of the climate crisis. A priori, specifies Mr. Brabant, there is no link between this demonstration and the vandalism on vehicles in Westmount.
