Montreal Diving World Cup | Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Rylan Wiens finish in 5th place

(Montreal) Canadians Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Rylan Wiens took fifth place in the synchronized 10-meter platform event at the Diving World Cup on Sunday at the Olympic Park in Montreal.

Zsombor-Murray, from Pointe-Claire, and Wiens, from Pike Lake, Saskatchewan, also finished in fifth position at the recent Aquatic Worlds in Doha. This performance confirmed their participation in this event at the Paris Olympic Games this summer.

On Sunday, they were in second place after the fourth of their six dives, even though Wiens had just slightly missed his jump.

The last two dives of Zsombor-Murray and Wiens had lower degrees of difficulty and their rivals took the opportunity to overtake them with higher jumps.

Zsombor-Murray and Wiens finished the competition with 409.95 points.

The Chinese Junjie Lian and Hao Yang dominated the event with a total of 457.23 points. They were accompanied on the podium by the Mexicans Kevin Berlin Reyes and Randal Willars Valdez (428.97) and the British Noah Williams and Thomas Daley (417.93).

Later on Sunday, the finals of the men’s 3-meter springboard and women’s 10-meter platform individual events were also presented.

Earlier in the day, Aimee Wilson and Margo Erlam, both of Calgary, finished fourth in the synchronized 3-metre springboard event. They scored 285.90 points for their five jumps.

The Chinese Yiwen Chen and Yani Chang triumphed with a total of 329.40 points. Americans Kassidy Cook and Sarah Bacon (312.60) won silver and Australians Maddison Kenney and Anabelle Smith (297.60) took bronze.
