Montreal CSS schools will close on November 6 in the morning

The schools of the Montreal School Service Center (CSSDM) will be closed on Monday, November 6 in the morning due to a strike by support and professional staff represented by the public sector union common front. Union members will walk off the job from midnight to 10:30 a.m. In a note sent to parents on October 30, the CSSDM specifies that “before the start of classes, child care, dinner supervision and school transportation will not be offered “.

The CSSDM states that it is aware that “the absence of school transportation can pose a major challenge” for parents and that they could decide to keep their children at home, in which case parents should notify the school “for reasons security reasons.” Classes will resume in the afternoon according to the usual schedule. Daycare and school transportation will be offered at the end of classes.

The strike was announced last week, but the impact on schools was still uncertain, since CSSDM teachers are not represented by the Common Front. The unions which will be on strike on Monday have informed management “that there will be picketing or mobilization activities in front of the CSSDM buildings”, according to a press release from the service center to its staff members.

Remember that the unions said they were “disappointed and insulted” by the new offer presented Sunday by the president of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, which proposes a salary increase of 10.3% over five years. November 6 will be the first day of strike for the 420,000 members of the Common Front. The Alliance of Professors of Montreal, which represents CSSDM teachers, also has an unlimited general strike mandate, but has not announced a walkout for the moment.
