Montreal criminal acquitted of home invasion in front of children

A Montreal criminal who was previously sentenced to 16 years in prison for various home robberies has just been acquitted of an armed robbery in front of children following a jury trial.

Darryl Reddick, 43, was found not guilty Thursday morning of charges of breaking and entering, robbery and using an imitation firearm.

COURTESY OF THE COURT

In September 2021, a masked man and his unidentified accomplice entered an apartment in the Sud-Ouest, in Montreal, and stole a safe.

According to the prosecution’s theory, Reddick pointed a fake gun at the father of the family, who managed to leave his apartment to take refuge on the second floor and call 911.

After a little more than a day of deliberations, however, the jury members had a reasonable doubt as to the identification of the man whom the victim had recognized as Darryl Reddick.

“It’s not at all clear who the person was in the house. The main witness, the one who could identify him, was not very credible or reliable,” said defense lawyer M.e Jordan Trevick.

Reddick, however, will remain in custody as he awaits trial on gun and kidnapping charges. He will return to court on Friday for further proceedings.
