Montreal Canadiens | Newhook, Harvey-Pinard and four other players have received a qualifying offer

The Montreal Canadiens announced Friday that they have submitted qualifying offers to six restricted free agents, including Alex Newhook and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard.

Forwards Jesse Ylönen, Lucas Condotta and Mitchell Stephens as well as defender Nicolas Beaudin also received a qualifying offer. For their part, forwards Joël Teasdale and Denis Gurianov did not get any offers.

Newhook, acquired Tuesday from the Colorado Avalanche, had 14 goals and 16 assists in 82 games last season. In return, the Habs sent a first-round pick (31e in total) and second round (37e in total) of 2023.

For his part, Harvey-Pinard was the revelation at the Canadiens last season. The Saguenay native has amassed 20 points (14 goals, 6 assists) in 34 games with the club. He also scored 16 goals and added 15 assists in 40 games with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League.

Ylönen played 37 games with the Canadiens last season, a career high in the NHL. The 23-year-old striker benefited from the Canadian’s heavy medical toll to obtain minutes of play with the first team. He had six goals and 10 assists with CH.

Condotta, Stephens and Beaudin played most of last season with the Laval Rocket.

Gurianov and Teasdale on hold

Although Gurianov and Teasdale have not received an offer, they could return to the Canadiens next season.

In the case of the 26-year-old Russian winger, the qualifying offer had to be a minimum of 2.9 million. It had to be at least $787,500 for Teasdale.

Both players will become unrestricted free agents on Saturday at noon when the free agent market opens. For Gurianov specifically, he could renegotiate his lower salary with the Canadian, if ever the two clans are open to this idea.
