Readings to reflect
Looking for inspiring discussions on current topics? Authors Véronique-Marie Kaye, Camille Toffoli and Anna Babi will discuss feminist awakening in all its forms during a round table hosted by Catherine Ferland, who signed the book 15 women who made the history of Quebec. Writers Émilie Monnet, Sophie Faucher and Robert Lalonde will participate in a discussion on the importance of reading, an essential refuge in times of pandemic. The round table will be moderated by Émilie Perreault, who pleads for a greater place for the arts and culture in our lives in her essay Essential service. And finally, the artist of Innu origin Natasha Kanapé Fontaine will evoke in her confidences with Catherine Perrin the themes of the fight against racism and discrimination against Indigenous peoples, on the occasion of the publication of her first novel, Nauetakuan, a silence for a noise.

Poetry in celebration
The Salon celebrates poetry by entrusting the stage, for a cabaret show, to voices such as those of Diane Régimbald, Marie-Ève Comtois and Tire le coyote (Benoit Pinette), with Tristan Malavoy at the animation. The contribution of poetry will also be at the heart of three interviews with Vanessa Bell, Noémie Pomerleau-Cloutier and Stéphane Despatie, as well as a performance reading in English with Alexandrine Capolla Beauregard, Armen Keuchguerian, Tara McGowan-Ross and David Bradford, as part of the Poetic fibers project, supported by Blue Metropolis.

Traveling through literature
The facilitator and follower of the vanlife Dominic Arpin, author Gabriel Anctil and Torontonian Lamra Papitashvili will discuss, during a round table, the search for oneself through travel, otherness and the initiatory journey. Still on the subject of travel, interviews with Vincent Brault, Annie Perreault and Joanne Rochette will transport us respectively to Tokyo, Russia and Colombia. Are you a fan of thrillers? Don’t miss this series of interviews with three big names in Quebec thriller: Maureen Martineau will talk about her brand new collection of black short stories, Criminal, co-written with Ariane Gélinas, while Marie-Ève Bourassa will present her novel All apart and André Jacques, The chasms of the Karst. Crimes, justice and fugitives at the rendezvous! Note that Maureen Martineau will also participate the same day, at 5 p.m., in a virtual meeting on detective novels with the crime writer and Colombian journalist Santiago Gamboa. Fans of the genre will have to choose, however, if they want to attend the writer’s confidences with Martin Michaud, which are scheduled for the same evening. Plan your visit
The Montreal Book Fair will take off next Thursday for the very first time at the Palais des congrès. Please note: you must plan your visit by reserving a time slot to have access to the Show – a limited number of visitors will be admitted every hour, but the maximum recommended visit time is three hours. The activities – round tables, interviews and discussions – will operate on a first come, first seated basis. In all, 1150 authors are expected and 500 publishing houses will be represented.
