Montreal Auto Show: Duo of electric novelties at Chevrolet

Chevrolet arrives with an avalanche of novelties at the Montreal Auto Show.

In particular, two new fully electric vehicles will be presented, but fans of gasoline models will not be left out!

Chevrolet Silverado EV

Among the most anticipated models on our roads, the Chevrolet Silverado EV is certainly at the top of the list. This 100% electric version of the popular Silverado will still take some time to reach dealerships, but Auto Show visitors can get a closer look at it now!

Built on the Ultium platform, which is also used to develop the GMC Hummer EV, the Silverado EV will initially be available in two distinct variants to meet the needs of different types of consumers.

The WT (Work Truck) version will develop 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. The towing capacity will amount to 8000 lbs while the loading capacity in the box will be able to reach 1200 lbs. As for the RST variant, power and torque will increase to 660 horsepower and 780 lb-ft respectively, while towing capacity will be maxed out at 10,000 lb.

Although official figures are still pending, Chevrolet estimates that the range of the Silverado EV will be around 640 kilometers. It will also be possible to quickly recharge the vehicle thanks to a maximum admissible power of 350 kW.

Chevrolet promises a tempting starting price of $54,748 for its Silverado EV, but we’ll have to be patient. The RST variants, which will be the first to be delivered, will instead be offered at an amount of more than $120,000.

Equinox EV

The other electric vehicle presented by Chevrolet at the Montreal Auto Show is the 2024 Equinox EV. Like the Silverado EV, this SUV is based on the Ultium platform, which will be used for a large number of models at General Motors in the next few years.

With the Equinox EV, Chevrolet offers the choice between two different batteries for this electrified compact utility. These allow you to enjoy a range of 400 to 480 km depending on the model chosen. The power also varies between 210 and 290 horsepower depending on the size of battery selected.

Beyond its inspiring look and its technologies, it is above all the price of the Equinox EV that is likely to make it very popular with Quebec motorists. Last fall, Chevrolet took the automotive world by surprise when it announced that the starting price of the Equinox EV in Canada would be $35,000. This would make it eligible for full government subsidies ($12,000), which would make it an oddly attractive product financially. Its arrival at dealerships is scheduled for the fall of 2023 and we are already wondering about the availability of this vehicle, whose waiting lists could grow quickly.

Gas-powered models also featured

Electric vehicles are good, but there are also new models powered by gasoline engines that are presented at the Chevrolet booth at the Montreal Auto Show.

Visitors can notably discover the new generation of the Chevrolet Colorado. This pickup comes with a ZR2 version designed for off-road driving. It is powered by a four-cylinder turbo engine whose power can climb up to 310 horsepower.

Finally, performance enthusiasts can get an eyeful with the 2023 Corvette Z06, a monster designed for the track from which we managed to extract a good 670 horsepower. This American beast can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and reach a maximum power of over 300 km/h.
