Electronic artist Debby Friday won the prestigious Polaris Prize for Best Canadian Album on Tuesday for Good Luck.
Born in Nigeria, Debby Friday grew up in Montreal then lived in Vancouver and Toronto.
His most recent album, Good Luckstands out for its mix of genres ranging “from allusions to the dub dazzle of Santigold to the MIDI-crush of Death Grips”, we can read on the website of his label, Sub Pop.
She therefore leaves with a prize of $50,000 awarded to the winner chosen by a group of journalists, broadcasters and bloggers, without regard to musical genre or sales.
Last year, the Polaris was awarded to Quebecer of Congolese origin Pierre Kwenders for his third album, José Louis and the Paradox of Love.
