Montreal | A woman killed in Saint-Michel, her ex-partner detained

A woman was killed Saturday evening in an apartment in the Saint-Michel district of Montreal, leaving the neighborhood in shock. Her ex-partner is currently detained.

A neighbor was gardening around 5:30 p.m. when she heard shrill screams. Two women stormed out of an apartment building located opposite her home, on rue Bélair, near 21e avenue. “They were in a state of panic,” she says.

The police, who arrived a few minutes later, located a 55-year-old woman seriously injured in the upper body in an apartment. “Resuscitation maneuvers had to be carried out, but unfortunately the death of the lady was noted on the scene,” indicated Jean-Pierre Brabant of media relations with the Police Service of the City of Montreal (SPVM).

The victim’s ex-partner, a 71-year-old man, appeared himself at a police station to inform the authorities of the situation. He is currently detained and will be met by investigators in the coming hours, said Mr. Brabant.

Late Saturday evening, neighbors gathered in front of the security perimeter set up on Bélair Street. “It’s so sad,” one man said as he watched the scene.

A command post was established in the area and investigators went to the scene to analyze the scene. This is the 13the murder to occur since the beginning of the year in the territory served by the SPVM.

The victim becomes the 14e woman murdered in Quebec since the beginning of the year. On Wednesday, Amanda Caza, 34, was stabbed in her home in Ormstown in Montérégie. His father was charged with second-degree murder.
