Shortly after 2 a.m., police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) attempted to intercept the SUV using a studded mat on Highway 40 eastbound at D’Iberville Street.

Despite punctures caused to his vehicle, the suspect restarted with a bang before colliding with a patrol vehicle causing material damage.

The suspect in the SUV from Ontario continued his escape through the streets of Montreal, before swerving near Highway 25 and Perras Boulevard.

The driver then abandoned the vehicle to continue the escape on foot in a wooded area, said Sûreté du Québec spokesman Nicolas Scholtus.

After research, the police were able to locate the suspect around 4 a.m. thanks to the collaboration of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), which mobilized a dog handler.

He was met by police officers from the Montreal highway station, added agent Scholtus, without specifying whether the SUV was reported stolen or not.
