(Montreal) A 28-year-old man died Friday evening in Montreal after being hit by a projectile from a firearm in the borough of Saint-Laurent.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) confirmed in the early hours of Saturday morning that the man whose condition was considered critical at the start of the evening the day before succumbed to his injuries when he went to the hospital.
The man was known to the police and had a criminal record, said SPVM spokeswoman Mariane Allaire Morin, but the motives behind his murder remain unknown.
The incident occurred shortly before 8:10 p.m. near Jules-Poitras and DeGuire boulevards, in the borough of Saint-Laurent.
The victim, who had been taken to hospital in critical condition, later died of his injuries. The man was unconscious on board the ambulance during his transfer to the hospital center.
According to the first information from the Montreal police, the man was hit in the upper body by a projectile from a firearm.
So it’s 41e murder to occur on SPVM territory in 2022. The police are continuing their investigation into this case, but no arrests have been made immediately.
Investigators will try to trace potential witnesses, said agent Allaire Morin. A vehicle was also reportedly seen fleeing the scene.
A crime scene was erected at the scene, where the police continued their work on Saturday morning.
