Montreal: 17-year-old boy shot dead

A 17-year-old boy died in hospital after being hit by at least one gunshot Thursday night in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough of Montreal.

He was the victim of the first murder to have been committed in 2022 on the territory patrolled by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

Police report being informed around 6:50 p.m. that a person had been shot near the intersection of Roy Est and Rivard streets.

When they arrived, the police found that the teenager had suffered injuries to the upper body. The paramedics transported him to the hospital.

He was conscious at the time, but his condition was later considered critical by doctors.

The suspect(s) reportedly fled the scene before police arrived. They still had not been located some seven hours later.

A security perimeter has been erected. Investigators from the major crimes squad, a dog handler and a forensic identification technician from the SPVM were dispatched to the crime scene.

Witnesses have already been interviewed and others are expected to be interviewed over the next few hours. The police will also try to determine if surveillance cameras in the area were able to capture images of interest.
