Montpellier (Herault), about sixty families resist against the demolition of their HLM building. They are all residents of the Leonardo da Vinci residence, which the social landlord considers dilapidated.

The inhabitants of the Leonardo da Vinci residence in Montpellier (Herault) are ready to block the bulldozers, in the event of maintenance of the demolition project of their buildings. “They might kick us out, but before that, I can tell you that we’re going to do sit-ins, (…) we’re not going to let it go”, indignant one of the inhabitants of the harmonious residence with shared gardens.

If there is no doubt about the harmony of the residence created thirty years ago, it is beginning to show signs of aging, especially in the roofs, infiltrations and thermal insulation. This is the reason why the ACM, their social landlord, plans to destroy the residence. The inhabitants rather wish to see their apartments rehabilitated. “We will rebuild by adding twenty or thirty housing units (…) if we rehabilitate it will cost us almost as much as the reconstructions”, says Michael Calvi, president of ACM Habitat, who ensures that no decision has yet been taken.
