The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) was called to look into the circumstances surrounding the event that occurred around 2 p.m. in Les Cèdres, in Montérégie.

A police officer allegedly tried to intercept a vehicle for a violation of the Highway Safety Code on the Monseigneur-Langlois bridge, in Coteau-du-Lac, a few kilometers further.

The driver of the vehicle would then have accelerated to flee and would have entered the path of the River. A lawsuit would then have been initiated, said the BEI in a press release.

The fugitive would then have collided with another vehicle arriving in the opposite direction, a few kilometers further. The fugitive and the driver of this second vehicle both suffered serious injuries and were transported to a hospital in critical condition, said the BEI.

Six BEI investigators were tasked with clarifying the circumstances surrounding the event. The parallel investigation was entrusted to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
