The body of a woman was discovered in Sainte-Catherine, in Montérégie. According to our information, it showed signs of violence. The circumstances of his death remain “nebulous” according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which is not ruling out any hypothesis for the moment.
Around 2 a.m. on the night of Saturday to Sunday, police officers from the Roussillon intermunicipal police force were called to go to a housing unit located on Union Street, in Sainte-Catherine, following the discovery of the inanimate body of a woman, whose death was pronounced on the spot.
“The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear,” indicates Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, information officer for the SQ. Investigators from the crimes against the person division, accompanied by a forensic identification technician and a dog handler, went to the site to analyze the scene.
This is a suspicious death: it is therefore the SQ which took charge of the case, in close collaboration with the Roussillon intermunicipal police authority, in order to shed light on the causes and circumstances surrounding the event.
An individual was arrested by the police and transported to the hospital. He will be met by investigators when his condition allows, in order to clarify his involvement in the case.
“At this stage, all hypotheses are considered,” underlines Élizabeth Marquis-Guy. “The circumstances of the event raise questions” as to whether or not it was femicide, she specifies. The link between the arrested individual and the victim has not yet been revealed.
“It’s very surprising: very little happens here normally. Everyone knows each other, it’s pretty quiet. I am in shock,” says Claude Michaud, a regular at the bar located in the same block in front of which a security perimeter has been set up.
