Monteregie | Motorist dies trapped in vehicle that caught fire

(Saint-Jacques-le-Mineur) A motorist died stuck in his vehicle which had caught fire after leaving the road on Tuesday afternoon in Saint-Jacques-le-Mineur, in Montérégie.


The accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Highway 15 southbound, near the small municipality near Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

For a reason that remains unknown, the motorist lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road. The car then slammed into trees and burst into flames.

“Unfortunately the driver remained stuck inside the vehicle and his death was noted on the spot,” said Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Local firefighters responded to the scene, but were unable to get the motorist out of his precarious position in time.

Patrol officers specializing in collision investigations from the SQ will comb through the scene in order to better understand the circumstances of this accident.

The police force did not give details of the victim at the beginning of the evening on Tuesday.

However, no other vehicle would be involved in the exit from the road, according to the SQ.
