A swimming activity turned tragic on Saturday when a 43-year-old man did not reappear on the surface of the water after performing a rope jump.

The tragedy occurred around 4 p.m. Saturday in the small body of water on the edge of which is the Sablon beach of the campsite of the same name, in Saint-Polycarpe, in Montérégie.

“The man in his 40s jumped into the water from a platform where a Tarzan rope was located. He ended up in the water and did not come to the surface. At this location, the depth of the lake is two to three meters,” explained information officer Nicolas Scholtus, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The man was eventually rescued and resuscitation maneuvers were carried out by beach rescuers until help arrived.
